Passing through the Peak Range

The four of us went for a long drive through the Peak Range, which thrusts itself up from the plains not far from here.  No wonder Leichhardt called them the Peaks, (he named them all after the members of his party).  They are strange rocky protuberances, some pointy, some dome-shaped, some just couldn't make up their minds.

The most spectacular is probably the adjoining set of The Lord's Table and The Anvil, where we stopped for a cuppa.  The rocky cliffs soared above us- I imagine they have been climbed by intrepid rock climbers but it's hard to see how you would approach the task. Most of the peaks are on private property- there is a national park at Lord's Table but it's quite undeveloped, not even a track into it.

This photo shows The Lord's Table with The Anvil on the right.
Geological note:  Chris says the Table is a mesa (wider than it is high) and the Anvil is a butte (higher than it is long)

Scott's Peak in the distance (it's actually quite high) and Calvin's Peak

So, another perfect day, great weather, mid-twenties temp and light breeze.  We have to keep reminding ourselves that it's almost winter- Queensland's having a cold snap at the moment, and it is a bit chilly at night, about 12 or 13 degrees, but warms up by about 9 am so quite pleasant.
